"This little old lady swallowed a cow, then she swallowed a fly. Then she swallowed a cat. Then she swallowed a mouse. We had a cow. We had a fire drill - I saw smoke coming out. I wasn't scared. When there is a fire we get out and run as fast as we can before somebody gets us." - Kael

"I made a really good friend. You know who it is? Trapper. First, we were friends for a little while. Then someone said Trapper wasn't my friend, though he used to be my friend. Then Trapper invited me to play with him. That's how."

Today we continued our in-depth theme study of literacy. We practiced reading comprehension and memorization by singing There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and using the felt board to put the felt animals into the old lady's belly.

We also continued to listen to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom on the iPod. We started this on Friday. We follow along with the pictures and words and turn the page when we hear the chime.

Our big buddies came today! We read with our big buddies, talk about the illustrations and work on our communication skills with people of all ages!

We continue to write down our stories in the writing center!

Also in the writing center, we use tracing sheets to hone our fine motor skills and become familiar with the shapes of letters. As we trace, we talk about the letter sounds each letter makes and words that start with that letter.

  1. Hello to all the Dolphin readers and writers! We are so impressed by how smart and talented you all are. Isn't it super fun to start to learn how to read and write? Words are really amazing! Have fun learning and keep on telling all those wonderful stories. Mommies and Daddies really love all the imaginative things you come up with.
