November 10th, 2009

Today was our first day with Ms. Katie as a full-time teacher in our classroom. We sang new songs to get to know each other, and practiced new routines!

Today was also special because we had music time with Ms. Shelley! We sang songs about fall and got to use special music shakers.

In the atelier we acted as scientists and mathematicians! First, we sorted the many leaves we found on our nature walks. We observed the shape of the leaves and compared them to pictures of different types of leaves found around Oregon.

Each scientist picked a leaf (or several) and sorted it according to leaf identification sheets. We observed how many points the leaves had, whether their sides were bumpy or smooth, and whether they were wide or thin.

On Thursday we will take the leaves we sorted and put them into a pictograph to determine the most common types of trees in our community!
